After reports indicated that hundreds of Burundian soldiers were sent to Bibogobogo last week, today, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, another group of around one hundred has arrived, according to our sources.
In the middle of last week, 200 soldiers arrived in Bibogobogo, coming from the city of Baraka in the Fizi territory.
Upon their arrival, due to the ongoing fighting in Rusuku and Mulima between the Congolese army and the Twirwanaho group in collaboration with M23, it was said that they might have come to provide assistance and protect the city of Baraka from being captured by the M23 and Twirwanaho fighters.
This part of Bibogobogo is predominantly inhabited by many Banyamulenge and is located above the city of Baraka.
However, as of now, they are still there, and they have not provided any assistance either in Mulima or in Rusuku.
Around midday on this Wednesday, just a short while ago, another group of about one hundred Burundian soldiers arrived in Bibogobogo.
One of the residents said “They are about to enter the Bibogobogo area. If you count them, they reach a hundred.”
There are seven military camps housing soldiers from either Fardc or Burundi. One is located in the center of Bibogobogo, which is monitored by Col Ntagawa from Fardc, while another in the Ugeafi region also contains Burundian troops.
Additionally, there is another camp in Bivumu, Kavumu, and Rurimba. The only camp with Fardc is in the center of Bibogobogo; all the others mentioned above house Burundian soldiers.
Burundian troops have once again arrived in Bibogobogo in large numbers, while yesterday, Tuesday, Twirwaneho and M23 took the entire Rugezi area, located in the Lulenge sector of the Fizi territory. This follows intense fighting between these two groups, which are part of the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC), a coalition of Congolese forces that includes Burundian troops, Congolese forces, and groups such as FDLR and Wazalendo.
Reports indicate that this coalition is fighting for the government of Kinshasa, after the Twirwaneho group and M23 took control of the Rugezi area, which quickly spread to the surrounding areas, eventually fleeing into the forests of Rugezi towards Milimba, known as a stronghold for FDLR and Wazalendo.
