The coalition of government forces launched a major attack last night on the outskirts of the city of Goma against the fighters of the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC), which includes the M23 group and the Twirwaneho group, pushing them back, according to AFC leadership.
Since January 27, 2025, the city of Goma and its surroundings have been controlled by AFC/M23, following the expulsion of the Congolese army (FARDC), FDLR, Burundian troops (FDNB), Wazalendo, and other foreign forces that were assisting Kinshasa’s troops in combating the AFC/M23 coalition.
Last night, which extended into this Saturday, the alliance of government forces launched attacks in areas surrounding the city of Goma, including Kyeshero, Lac-Vert, and Ndosho, but the fighters of the M23 group pushed them back and reportedly inflicted casualties on this alliance that attacked them.
The governor of North Kivu province, Bahati Musanga Erasto, told the media that the Congolese army, FARDC, FDLR, Burundian troops, and Wazalendo attempted to launch attacks on the positions of AFC/M23, but were immediately repelled.
This was also mentioned by the spokesperson for the AFC/M23 military, Lt. Col. Willy Ngoma, who indicated that their fighters dealt a heavy blow to the alliance that attempted to launch those attacks against them.
He stated: “After the aggression by the alliance of criminals (FARDC, FDLR, and Wazalendo…) in many areas and around Goma, things have now returned to normal and it is calm. The lions are alert. And they dealt a heavy blow to the enemy.”
Furthermore, the Governor of the North Kivu province has urged the residents of the city of Goma to remain calm, informing them that AFC/M23 is always ready to seek peace and security for them.
