An “exploratory electoral” mission of the European Union is staying in Kinshasa for a period of fifteen days, announced Wednesday, June 7, the head of the delegation, Vincent, after the audience that the president of the National Assembly granted to his delegation.
This mission wants to realize the effectiveness of the conditions for observing the elections in December 2023 in the DRC.
According to Vincent Ringenbert, the report of their mission will help the European Union to decide whether or not to participate in the observation of the next elections ,
It is a question of concretely ensuring the political, security and logistical conditions to be able to deploy observers.
“I am Vincent Ringenbert, I work in Brussels, within the European Union, at the European External Action Service; it is a bit like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the European Union. And I am leading the mission here to observe the elections next December. And before making the decision whether or not we will observe these elections, we are deploying a team of technicians above all to see if the conditions are right for observing the elections next December”. #Okapi reports.
“The mission, which has just landed in Congolese soil, has to work for fifteen days. It is at the end of a process of meetings, meetings, the writing of a report to be transmitted to the hierarchy, which will make the final decision on whether or not to deploy the election observation mission for the polls next December”.
“My name is Vincent Ringenbert, and I work for the European External Action Service in Brussels, which is akin to the EU’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And I’m in charge of the mission here that will watch the elections in December.
We are sending out a team of technicians to determine whether the environment is favorable for witnessing the elections in December before deciding whether or not to do so.The mission, which has just touched down in the Congo, has fifteen days of labor ahead of it. At the conclusion of a series of meetings and meetings, a report is written to be sent to the hierarchy, which will make the final determination of whether to approve or reject the proposal.
The goal of this mission is to determine whether the prerequisites are in place for sending an electoral observation mission to the Congo for the upcoming elections, which are slated for December 2023.
According to Vincent Ringenberg, an expert on issues related to electoral observation and democracy, “If we have added value, if an electoral observation mission in December 2023 is something that would be feasible, something that would be useful, something that would be desirable for the DRC and for its democracy.”
He added that they were given a lot of explanations regarding how the election was run and the results thus far.
