On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted in front of the world that his country’s military lacks the weapons, aircraft, and communications technology necessary to advance its campaign in Ukraine.
At a press conference, he told reporters that “during the special military operation, it became clear that many things were missing.” These include high-precision weapons, communication tools, aircraft, drones, and other devices.
“They are here. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough of them, according to Putin, as quoted by the Russian news source Interfax.
And that’s despite the fact that, according to statistics presented by Putin, Russia increased its production of military weaponry.
According to Interfax, Putin stated that during the course of the year, “We had a 2.7-fold increase in production for the main types of weapons, and 10 times for the most demanded areas.”
Putin has mentioned a deficit in Russia’s stockpile of ammunition twice this week.
In a statement posted on the Kremlin’s website on Friday, he said that Russian forces “do not yet have enough modern arms” for the conflict.
Putin stated that Moscow has been attempting to close the gap and that its defense companies are “intensively building up production of modern weapons.”
He has said that he wants Russia to develop its defense industries ever since August. Putin spoke of “arising issues” in the defense industry while urging the Russian military industry to step up its game in terms of weapon development.
Putin’s recent statements contrast with those he made in August, when he said that Russia’s weaponry were “cutting edge” and “decades” ahead of those of its rivals. #insider reports.
The war in Ukraine, according to Western experts and officials, has severely hurt Russia’s supplies of cutting-edge weapons and technology.
According to a number of reports from April, Russia has been using early Soviet-era tanks that were created shortly after World War II because its losses have severely depleted its stockpile.
