There is “rampant violence and rising humanitarian needs” in eastern DRC, the UN’s humanitarian coordination office (Ocha) warned on Monday.

International relief organizations on Thursday issued a warning and demanded immediate humanitarian action after noting that more than 2,750 people have been killed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)’s east this year.

The existence of active non-state armed groups is escalating the cycle of violence in many regions, leading to large-scale population displacements, and worsening an already precarious humanitarian situation, according to the Forum of International NGOs in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to the statement, the forum is comprised of at least 124 foreign non-governmental organizations that operate in the DRC.

According to the Forum of International NGOs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, “in many regions, the existence of active non-state militias is aggravating the ongoing cycle of violence, causing enormous population displacements, and exacerbating an already precarious humanitarian situation.Perhaps 124 international non-governmental associations that operate in the DRC are represented in the event, according to the statement.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s security and human rights situation worsened even worse, especially in its eastern provinces. The systemic reforms that President Félix Tshisekedi’s administration promised to implement to end the country’s decades-long cycles of violence, abuse, corruption, and impunity have made little headway.

Repression of the media, activists, opposition politicians, and nonviolent protestors persisted amid a climate of escalating intolerance for competing viewpoints.

The military control imposed in North Kivu and Ituri a year later failed to stop massive violence and atrocities committed against people by various armed factions in eastern Congo. more than 2,000 people were killed in both provinces by armed groups and government troops.
According to the UN, about 5.6 million people were internally displaced as of July, with a total of 1.6 million in Ituri and more than 1.8 million of them in just the provinces of North and South Kivu.

According to information gathered by the Kivu Security Tracker, which tracks violence in eastern Congo, numerous armed actors, some of whom are unknown, killed at least 2,446 civilians in the provinces of South Kivu, North Kivu, and Ituri between January and late October. This number includes at least 155 victims who were killed by Congolese security personnel.

Joint military operations by the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Uganda failed to stop deadly attacks by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) against civilians in North Kivu and Ituri. The ADF is an armed organization led by Uganda and affiliated with the extremist armed group Islamic State (also known as ISIS).

The United Nations has emphasised that the humanitarian crisis keeps it’s acceleration where government security personnel also take part in the lose of innocent people’s lives just as armed groups.
