The negotiations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the political and military coalition Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC), which includes the M23 and Twirwaneho groups, have been postponed; this is because the coalition has set conditions that the Kinshasa government must first fulfill for the negotiations to take place.
Today, Wednesday, April 9, 2025, negotiations between the DRC and AFC/M23 were supposed to take place.
As planned, these talks were to take place in Doha, Qatar, aimed at finding a lasting solution to the ongoing conflict in Eastern Congo.
Current reports indicate that by yesterday, Tuesday, both sides had not yet accepted the invitation to come to Doha for the talks.
However, as these reports indicate, AFC/M23 has outlined they are demands before sitting down at the negotiation table with the Congolese government.
Among the points raised by the AFC/M23 coalition is that President Felix Tshisekedi must first express his willingness to engage in dialogue with them.
Furthermore, they said that the legislative assembly should revoke the decisions made on 08/11/2022 against them.
The warrants for their arrest and the sanctions imposed on them to be lifted.
Those imprisoned for allegedly collaborating with M23 to be released.
Words and actions that incite hatred and discrimination to be halted.
Discrimination against families speaking Kinyarwanda and Swahili to be stopped.
Lastly, this coalition of AFC/M23 stated that agreements to cease hostilities between RDC and M23 must be signed.
This group concludes by stating that these are the demands for discussions to proceed once they are fulfilled. It also emphasizes that things will go well.
