The Mahoro Peace Association (MPA) has issued a strong condemnation of airstrikes conducted by the Congolese army on Minembwe aerodrome on Monday, June 30, 2025. The attacks, carried out using Sukhoi planes and drones, caused significant human and material damage, particularly affecting the Banyamulenge community in Minembwe and surrounding areas.
According to the MPA, the bombings injured two individuals: Chief Kazana Isaac and Bisetsa Byibagiza Ndasumbwa, a 5-year-old child. One of the strikes targeted a civilian humanitarian aircraft delivering essential medicines to the local population, an act the MPA describes as a grave violation of international humanitarian law. The affected communities, including the Banyamulenge and Tutsi, have been enduring a humanitarian siege for years, exacerbating their vulnerability.
The MPA has called on both national and international communities to take urgent action to address these acts of violence and ensure the safety of all Congolese citizens, particularly marginalized groups. The organization emphasized the need for immediate measures to protect the persecuted Banyamulenge and Tutsi communities and to hold those responsible for the attacks accountable.
The situation in Minembwe remains tense, with growing concerns over the safety of civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid in the region.
