After almost two weeks of accalmation, four people were discovered dead on May 5 in some accrochages between the Mbole and the Lengola in the Lubunga community in Kisangani (Tshopo).
All socioeconomic activities in this urban-rural community of Kisangani have been paralyzed by this new tension.
The first victim of the day was a gang of people carrying white weapons who had come to try to rob the Lubunga commune office, according to Héritier Isomela, president of the ONG Sauti Ya Lubunga.
They have returned to threaten the community. To attack the young people in the community, many communities have organized themselves. Once one of them was captured, it was lapidated and then blown up.
Three further bodies that were found in the city were brought back to the community by the authorities. This brings the total number of victims throughout this day’s assaults to four.
Richard Losambe, the mayor of the nearby Lubunga village, advised residents to wait for authorities’ more effective intervention:
Strengthening the police team in relation to available resources. Specifically, logistics to determine how to carry out mixed patrouilles, and the military and police to try to ensure the safety of the populace.
Three more injured people, including a grievously injured teacher, are admitted to the hospital for treatment. The four bodies were still lying on the ground at the shared desk till late on Tuesday night while they awaited the arrival of their individual families to take them home.
