Reliable information from the center of Minembwe, in South Kivu Province, reports that a drone believed to belong to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) carried out an attack in a densely populated area, injuring civilians.
According to these reports, the attack occurred in the early evening of Friday, 30/01/2026. The drone fired explosives into the town of Minembwe, hitting the house of a Munyamulenge civilian known as Mwafrika, causing significant damage to local residents.
A witness who spoke to Minembwe Capital News said: “A short while ago, a drone fired in the center of Minembwe, destroying the house of a Munyamulenge man called Mwafrika.”
Further information indicates that the house is located near the Minembwe territory administrative offices, approximately 30 meters away. It is also confirmed that the attack left three people injured inside the house. They were immediately taken to medical facilities for treatment, although their overall health condition has not yet been officially disclosed.
So far, the authorities have not released any official statement explaining the attack. However, residents of the area claim that the drone belongs to government forces from Kinshasa, adding that it came from the direction of Bujumbura in Burundi.
This has become a subject of debate and serious concern, especially among residents who allege close cooperation between certain regional armed forces something that could have severe consequences for the security of the Banyamulenge and other civilians living in the area.
This incident comes as relative calm was reported earlier today in some parts of the Mutambara groupement, in Fizi territory, following days of fighting between rival parties.
Civilians continue to call for the protection of their security and for an independent and thorough investigation into what happened in Minembwe, in order to establish the truth and safeguard civilians amid the ongoing difficult situation in eastern DRC.
