Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, allegedly spoke by phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian late on Sunday to discuss “how to use all methods to stop” Israeli attacks on Gaza, according to Hamas.
Additionally, according to a statement from Hamas made via the messaging service Telegram, they “discussed the most recent developments pertaining to the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip.”
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, has claimed that Tehran was not engaged in the Hamas strike on Israel but has yet welcomed the action.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, 4,651 people have died and more than 14,245 have been injured in Gaza since October 7. Inundated by the number of wounded following a flurry of Israeli bombings overnight, doctors at the Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza described their experience as a “bloody day.” For identification purposes in the event that they or their children are murdered, some Gazan parents have resorted to writing their children’s names on their legs.
The Jenin mosque in the West Bank city of the West Bank was the target of an airstrike early on Sunday local time by the Israeli military, which claimed it was carried out to prevent “an imminent terror attack.” The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports that three individuals died in the strike. The Palestinian foreign ministry described the unusual attack as a “dangerous escalation” of recent violence in the occupied area because the target was inside a camp for refugees.
Humanitarian workers in Gaza, which is currently under “complete siege” by Israel and perilously short on essential supplies, said that the weekend’s deliveries were a boost, but only barely began to satisfy requirements throughout the densely populated strip.
