
INDIAN POLICE HAS ARRESTED MORE THAN 2,000 MEN IN A CRACKDOWN FOR ILLIGAL CHILD MARRIAGE
Over 2,000 men were arrested in a crackdown due to high levels of child marriage in different states of India.
The research shows that, over 50 Hindu priests and Muslim clerics perform these marriage of underaged girls in Assam.
Mr Singh Said that “ we have arrested more than 2,000 men basing on 4,074 police cases making a total of 8,000 men.
The national crime record bureau ( NCRB) statistics shows that many cases go unreported only a hundreds are reported.
Mr Singh added that child marriage in the state is responsible for the increasing rates of infants and maternal mortality in the country.
Indian parliament to raise the age on which women should first attain 21 and not 18 to a legalized marriage, as the only way to promote gender equality in the country.
Women and child development Minister of India supplemented that this consideration would enable girls to rely on themselves economically, and even continue their education as well, not only archiving psychological and physical maturity.
