The DRC would never be forgotten by the nations assisting in the pacification of eastern DRC, Kenyan President William Ruto pledged on Saturday, June 24. William Ruto said in an interview with France 24 that the M23 offensive was stopped and that the security situation in North Kivu had significantly improved since the EAC’s forces were deployed there.#radio okapi reports.
“We won’t give up on the people of the DRC. Our issue is with the DRC. The distance between the M23 and the city of Goma when we visited the DRC in November 2022 was 7 kilometers. I can confirm that there has been a three-month ceasefire in hostilities. The M23 is no longer operational at Goma’s entrances.
He continues by saying that the East African Community (EAC) cannot continue to remain silent about the situation in the DRC. Because of this, the area has made a decision and is using its own funds.
A delegation from Uganda, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi visited the M23 militants’ cantonment area over the course of the last two days. In stabilizing eastern DRC, we have achieved great success. Due to the fact that the solution won’t be found in a year, there are sporadic incidences in some places. More over 30 years have passed since these issues first surfaced. Give us credit, by all means.
The issue has been stabilized. There is a strong possibility that the M23 will be restricted today.
William Ruto continued, “There is a real possibility that the M23 will be confined today.”
