Social media rumors that President Yoweri Museveni was in the critical care unit because of Covid-19 have been refuted by the president.
The President said on Tuesday night that he is doing well under treatment and would have been released from seclusion on Sunday if he had not tested positive for the virus.
“I also spotted a few people from, I believe, Kenya, saying that I was in the intensive care unit etc. The government would let the nation know if I were in the ICU. What is being concealed? But aside from sleeping, I haven’t spent any time as a sick guy in bed in this house, let alone in an ICU or other type of hospital bed. We will prevail, so keep praying, he tweeted.
Following his announcement on Thursday that he had contracted the coronavirus sickness at his last public engagement, Ugandans have taken to Twitter and other social media platforms to wish the seasoned leader a speedy recovery.
“I have received a plethora of supportive comments from my social media staff. My fellow Ugandans, I’m really grateful. I’m grateful to everyone who took the time to sign the boards at the Gate of Nakasero, he continued.
In the heart of Kampala’s Nakasero neighborhood, well-wishers are permitted to leave flowers at the State House door and to write get-well wishes on a massive board that has been built there and has his photo.
In response, a group of his supporters, including Salim Uhuru, the mayor of Kampala Central, and Anderson Burora, the deputy city resident commission for Rubaga, have launched a get well soon campaign to encourage people to send their best wishes to the president.
“We are here in solidarity to wish the president a speedy recovery and also to thank him for signing the anti-gay law that will preserve the African values and culture,” said Ashraf Barigye, the head of the Team Muhoozi Boba Boda initiative Uganda on Tuesday.
