Reports from South Kivu indicate that in Kavumu, near the Bukavu airport, a coalition of Congolese soldiers launched an attack.
This attack is confirmed to have occurred around five o’clock, approaching six in the afternoon.
Kavumu was attacked after the AFC/M23 group liberated it in early February of this year, following heavy fighting between this group and the government forces of Kinshasa, which left these fighters in control of the area. The following day, these fighters also took over the entire city of Bukavu.
Additionally, they captured other areas in the South Kivu province, including Kamanyola, Nyangenzi, and others.
Minembwe Capital News learned that this attack in Kavumu dealt a significant blow to the government side, as reports indicate that they lost hundreds of soldiers, and others are still being captured.
This recent attack follows other attacks by the Congolese armed forces that occurred in the outskirts of the city of Goma on the night of Friday to Saturday.
It is reported that these attacks took place in Kyeshero, Lac-Vert, and Ndosho. Goma and its surroundings were liberated by the M23 group in January, around the end of 2025.
AFC/M23 issued a statement yesterday indicating that these attacks involved troops from SADC, FARDC, Wazalendo, FDNB, and FDLR.
Thus, AFC states that these SADC forces must immediately leave the territory of the DRC.
Meanwhile, on Thursday of this week, the Congolese armed forces launched attacks in areas located in Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the Kalehe territory bordering Kavumu in the Kabare territory where they are fighting.
