The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, promised all Congolese people that he will bring them peace and that they will enjoy long-term stability.
This is what Tshisekedi told the Congolese people after his country, of which he is president, reached a peace agreement with Rwanda.
The agreement establishes principles aimed at long-term peace in the region and was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DRC, Kayikwamba Wagner, and his Rwandan counterpart, Olivier Nduhungurehe, on April 25, 2025.
The agreement was also signed in the presence of the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
Yesterday, on Tuesday, when Tshisekedi received his counterpart, the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, he stated that the agreement between the DRC and Rwanda is a step towards solutions for achieving lasting peace.
He said: “It is a commitment I made to my people that I will seek genuine and lasting peace for them. I believe that even those who are witnessing this, there will be no security issues in the DRC again. That is my wish and my goal.”
After that, there was an agreement in which the United States requested Rwanda and Congo Kinshasa to prepare a peace agreement project by May 2, 2025, so that both parties can review it. Following that, it is expected that a peace agreement will be signed.
