Another Munyamulenge, identified as Murama Byinshi, has been arrested and detained in Bujumbura, Burundi, according to information received by Minembwe Capital News (MCN) from sources in the area.

Murama’s arrest took place on the afternoon of 11/09/2026, amid continued reports of arrests and detentions of Banyamulenge living in Burundi. The situation continues to raise concerns among their families and others closely monitoring the security of these Congolese nationals.

Murama Arrested by Intelligence Authorities

Information received by MCN indicates that Murama Byinshi was arrested by security authorities responsible for intelligence investigations operating under Documentation in Bujumbura.

As of now, the available information does not clearly establish the exact reason for Murama’s arrest, what he is suspected of, or whether security authorities are pursuing a specific case against him.

His arrest comes at a time when other Banyamulenge have recently been arrested and detained, while their families have yet to receive sufficient explanations regarding the charges against them or the reasons for their detention.

Detention of Banyamulenge Continues to Raise Concerns

In Burundi, concerns continue to grow over the arrest of Banyamulenge, with some residents of Bujumbura saying that it has become difficult to determine what those detained are being accused of.

A Munyamulenge living in Bujumbura told MCN that there was previously a way to assist residents and follow up on their cases through Mutualité, but that after the organization was removed, it became difficult to determine who would follow up on the cases of arrested Banyamulenge.

He said:

“Here in Bujumbura, we used to have Mutualité, which followed up on the problems faced by our people. But the Burundian government dismantled it and removed it. Now, when you are arrested, you are left on your own, and no one follows up on your case. That is why it is difficult to know what those being detained are being accused of.”

These remarks reflect concerns among residents who say that when someone is arrested, it can be difficult to obtain sufficient information about their family member or the reason for their detention.

Murama Detained Following the Arrest of Three Pastors

The arrest of Murama Byinshi comes after the arrest of three Banyamulenge pastors, namely:

  • Reverend Gedeon
  • Pastor Mariko
  • Pastor Jalos Mardi

The three pastors were recently arrested in Burundi. Earlier information reported by MCN indicated that Jalos Mardi was arrested at Bujumbura International Airport before boarding a flight.

The arrest of the three pastors has continued to raise concerns among Banyamulenge, particularly regarding the safety of religious leaders and other residents living in Burundi.

Where Are the Detainees? Concerns Remain High

As of now, information available to MCN indicates that the three pastors are being held at an undisclosed location.

However, other reports suggest that they may be detained at the Documentation facility, where Burundi’s security authorities conduct investigations.

This information has not yet been independently verified by MCN, and no detailed official explanation has been released regarding the whereabouts of all the detainees or the allegations against them.

What Lies Behind the Detention of Banyamulenge?

The arrest of Murama Byinshi, following the detention of three pastors, has once again raised a serious question among Banyamulenge: Why do arrests and detentions of Banyamulenge in Bujumbura continue, while the reasons for these arrests remain unclear?

Residents continue to question whether all those detained have specific cases against them, whether they are being investigated for particular allegations, or whether other security-related issues may be behind the arrests.

As of now, no sufficient official explanation has been provided establishing the exact reason for the detention of Murama Byinshi and the other detainees.

Fear Continues to Grow

The detention of Banyamulenge in Burundi continues to cause fear among Banyamulenge living in Bujumbura and others outside Burundi.

Families of the detainees continue to need reliable information about their loved ones, where they are being held, the reasons for their detention, and how long they may remain in custody.

As detailed information regarding the arrest of Murama Byinshi remains unavailable, the issue of Banyamulenge detention in Burundi continues to be closely followed by residents and others monitoring developments in the region.
