Christian Mwando, the chief executive officer of Together for the Republic, described the accusations made by the military intelligence service against Moïse Katumbi’s right side as “a void” during a press conference held this Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in Lubumbashi.
The military intelligence service of the Democratic Republic of the Congo accused Salomon Kalonda, the right-hand man of Moïse Katumbi, the leader of the political party Ensemble pour la République, of a number of offenses, including the illegal possession of a firearm, the violation of state security, and complicity with certain M23 officers and Rwandan rebels for a coup in the nation.
According to him, it is “easy to understand that we do not know what we are accusing him of” if you pay attention to anything the army said about Salomon Kalonda.#7sur7
“That a coup d’etat would be attempted from the outside, but not in his favor, but rather in favor of a Katangese who has not been named. After all of that, you should know that our party, Together for the Republic, will have every press release verified in Kigali, and you should also know that the file is empty. Solomon is not specifically to blame for what we believe. Having learned that the Congolese people are furious with Rwanda for the M23’s violence allegations we must now unite to find a solution”.
In a press conference held last Monday, June 5, in Kinshasa, the legal adviser of the military intelligence staff of the DRC confirmed that Moïse Katumbi’s right arm had been arrested, specifically for illegally possessing a gun and war ammo, undermining state security, and encouraging soldiers to act against their duty and discipline.
The Moïse Katumbi party underlined that Salomon Kalonda’s opponents’ tactics were “a shame for the Democratic Republic of Congo” throughout the process.
You realize that decisions are made in haste, which is unfortunate for the Republic. We cannot accept such things, said Christian Mwando in conclusion.
Salomon Kalonda was detained on May 30 and Dieudonné Bolengetenge, the secretary general of Together for the Republic, refuted all of the accusations against him in a statement prior to his response.
