Two people were killed in the territory of Walikale in the North Kivu province, as the M23 group opposing the Kinshasa government took control.
This occurred during clashes that took place yesterday, Tuesday, April 22, 2025, between the Congolese army coalition and the M23 group.
Reports indicate that in the clashes between both sides, M23 has expelled the coalition of government forces from many areas in this territory of Walikale.
Witnesses also state that this M23 group has taken the center of Walikale itself, which they had previously released for the sake of the Doha talks in Qatar.
Aside from the fact that both sides fought throughout the day yesterday, reports continue to say that on this Wednesday, they resumed fighting. It is mentioned that this M23 group is continuing to drive out their opponents in those areas.
This follows the failure of the Doha talks, as Kinshasa refused to release the AFC/M23 prisoners as was planned.
AFC/M23 submitted to the Doha mediation a list of their political prisoners and 700 soldiers detained by the RDC government in violation of the law. Those released by President Felix Tshisekedi were captured for approaching the former governor of Haut-Uele, Christophe Baseane.
