A Munyamulenge man identified as Gicumbi Rudahigwa was attacked by unidentified assailants in the Rwentondo area of Mbarara City, southwestern Uganda. The attackers severely beat him before abandoning him on the roadside with serious injuries.
The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, November 5, into Friday, November 6, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., approaching 9:00 p.m.
Information obtained by Minembwe Capital News (MCN) indicates that the perpetrators have not yet been identified. Images of Gicumbi show that he sustained serious injuries, particularly around his jaw. It is suspected that he was beaten with metal objects and wooden sticks.
After assaulting him, the attackers left him lying on the roadside. He was later rescued by passersby, who helped him reach a health facility, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
The attack occurred while Gicumbi was returning home to his residence in Rwentondo after attending social visits.
Gicumbi Rudahigwa is a well-known figure among Congolese communities living in Uganda. He served as Chairman for more than seven years, leading one of the zones in the Nyarugugu area of Nakivale, which is home to a large Congolese population.
The attack has once again raised concerns about the safety of Banyamulenge living in various parts of Mbarara City, where incidents of violence targeting members of the community have frequently been reported. It has also renewed calls for residents to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions to protect themselves.
