The Banyamulenge self-defense group known as Twirwaneho has captured the center of Minembwe and its Airstrip, after repelling the country’s army that had attacked their positions.
This Friday morning, 21/02/2025, the Congolese Army, which includes the FARDC, FDLR, and Wazalendo forces, launched an attack on Banyamulenge residents of Runundu. These attacks were carried out by this group by using heavy bombs, where they attacked residents of Basegege, 8th Cepac, and other nearby areas of Mutanoga and other suburbs.
The Banyamulenge through their self-defense group fought back, and repeatedly beat the Congolese army and its allies.
Minembwe.com confirmed that at around 12:00 AM Twirwaneho entered the headquarters of the 21st brigade, expelling the FARDC and its henchmen from this headquarters located near Minembwe community radio station known as “Tuungane Minembwe.” This was after they captured the center of Minembwe and the Minembwe airstrip located at Kiziba.
Pictures shared were showing twirwaneho rejoicing and praising God for having enabled them defeat their enemies, they also took a lot of guns and bullets, according to the video they shared. Minembwe is known for various businesses, mainly related to cattle and other small animals.
In addition to Airstrip Twirwaneho captured, they also took over and are currently controlling the main hospitals in the area.
This is history made by Twirwaneho. the army toghter with Wazalendo who were in charge of this area used to watch on as Banyamulenge were being killed every day. Since the war started in 2017, Twirwaneho never captured the center of minembwe as they were always stopped however last Sunday twirwaneho had also taken Minembwe airstrip but it didn’t last.
The Banyamulenge people continue rejoice as the wazalendo continue to flee towards Mulima and continue to Baraka and Uvira.
