Drone Attacks in Minembwe Continue to Raise Alarm as Civilians Are Targeted by DRC and Burundian Forces
In the high mountains of Mulenge, in South Kivu Province, reports are emerging that continue to cause alarm and serious concern about the security of civilians. Information from the area indicates that the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC), in coordination with the Burundian army, carried out drone attacks in various parts of Minembwe inhabited by civilians.
Reliable information obtained by Minembwe Capital News confirms that these attacks occurred in the areas of Rugezi and Mikenke, where residents say they were struck by bombs fired using military drones. A resident who provided information said: “Early in the morning, drones from the Burundian army and FARDC fired two bombs at civilians in Rugezi.” He added: “At 9:38 a.m., those drones fired more bombs in the Mikenke area.”
Although authorities have not yet officially announced the number of people killed or injured, residents living near where the bombs fell reported that their farms and houses were damaged, causing significant losses and widespread fear among the population.
These attacks add to others that took place the previous day, when on Sunday drones were again used to fire bombs in the Rwitsankuku area, which is mainly inhabited by people of the Tutsi community, particularly the Banyamulenge.
Security analysts say that the use of drones in civilian-populated areas further highlights the grim nature of the conflict in eastern DRC, where civilians continue to be the primary victims of fighting and military operations carried out in their communities.
Residents of Minembwe are calling for an independent investigation and for concrete measures to be taken to protect them, as the security situation in the area continues to deteriorate.
