On Camp Zaire Avenue, in the Nkafu area of the town of Kadutu in Bukavu (South Kivu), several homes caught fire from Saturday night until Sunday morning, June 4. #Radio Okapi said.
In Kadutu, about a thousand homes belonging to the civil society were destroyed by fire. However, it is currently unknown where the fire originated.
Despite a few injuries that have already been transported to medical facilities, no documented human fatalities have occurred.
Hypocrate Marume, the head of Kadutu’s civic society, testified that all the possessions in these homes were destroyed by fire.
The fire, whose source is unknown, likely started in a single attribute before progressively spreading to others.
Estimates place the number of destroyed homes at around a thousand, and more than three thousand people may be among the victims who saw their homes burn to the ground. In addition, there are injured people who have been admitted to a hospital. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, the man stated.
Although the houses are stacked on top of one another, and it is the dry season, the fire, according to the information received, is believed to have started in one house and spread to others after rebounding from it. Accordingly, Hypocrate Marume said that the brazier must be to blame for the fire.
According to him, local youths using available resources were able to stop the fire from spreading.
“This great disaster really leaves too much damage, so we really ask the authorities at the level of the central government as well as at the level of the province to see in the possible how to fly to the aid of these affected families,”
The civil society laments the frequent fires that have occurred in Bukavu.
It calls on the government to take proper steps to stop this problem.
