Lt. Gen. Johny Luboya, the governor of Ituri, advised young people in Mongwalu who unlawfully hold firearms to sign up for the P-DDRCS (Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization) program on Friday, June 30.
A few months ago, when he made his first official visit to this mining town that had been the target of armed men, he spoke to them at a gathering that was well attended.
According to the mayor of this commune, Lieutenant General Johny Luboya, the governor of Ituri, arrived in Mongwalu at 11 a.m. local time. Mongwalu is a diverse city with 137,642 residents.
He stated the desire to see this entity once more become one of the economic lungs of Ituri during a well-attended protest he organized at the Kirikou roundabout.
According to okapi radio Lieutenant General Johny Luboya invited young people who are still in armed organizations to join the DDRCS program now running in Diango on the outskirts of Bunia in order to maintain the atmosphere of peace that is increasingly settling in this city.
The Governor of Ituri also admitted that it was challenging to start carrying out the government-initiated development program for 145 territories due to the activities of armed individuals in the region.
According to the provincial authorities, “as we usher in the era of the return of peace, we will soon program projects for the rehabilitation and construction of basic social infrastructure.”
In order to enhance the conditions of care for patients at the Mongwalu General Reference Hospital, he immediately announced, without specifying a date, the presence on site of a technical team to analyze the needs.
Johny Luboya asked the various communities to make amends and come together as a guarantee of enduring peace. In order to protect the areas that are still under attack from armed groups, he also declared that FARDC military reinforcements will soon arrive.
