Me Maniragaba Byashoni John, a resident and professional based in Minembwe, has released a detailed statement through Minembwe Capital News, sharing his perspective on what he describes as a new chapter for the Minembwe region after many years marked by conflict, insecurity, and repeated attacks.
In his message, Me Byashoni says he personally witnessed many of the events that unfolded in Minembwe over the past several years, including armed attacks, the displacement of civilians, military operations, and the devastating humanitarian impact of the conflict. He explains that many residents, particularly those living in the highlands of Minembwe, have spent more than a decade living in constant fear, with gunfire and military aircraft becoming part of their daily lives.
According to his account, the past ten years represented one of the darkest periods in the history of Minembwe. He states that an entire generation of children grew up surrounded by the sounds of war, while countless families were separated by displacement and others lost loved ones. He adds that there were moments when many residents felt they had lost all hope for the future, but believes that the situation has since begun to change.
In his statement, Me Byashoni attributes these developments to the activities of MRDP-Twirwaneho in cooperation with AFC/M23. According to him, these groups have played a significant role in restoring hope to Minembwe following years of hardship. He further states that during the recent fighting, MRDP-Twirwaneho confronted a coalition consisting of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC), the Burundi National Defence Force, the Wazalendo militia, and the FDLR, and that the coalition subsequently retreated from the battlefield.
Me Byashoni goes on to say that, following what he describes as improvements in the security situation, local residents have begun regaining confidence in the future. He notes that the Minembwe market has resumed operations, schools have reopened, and many of those who remained in the area are now focusing on rebuilding their lives.
He also expresses hope that many residents who fled Minembwe during the years of conflict will eventually return home after spending years as refugees or internally displaced persons. He emphasizes that Minembwe should be rebuilt in a spirit of unity and peace so that its people can once again enjoy stable and dignified living conditions.
Me Byashoni also expressed his appreciation to the leaders who recently visited Minembwe, including AFC/M23 Vice President Bertrand Bisimwa, Dr. Fred Kaniki, Gen. Byamungu, Gen. Charles Sematama, Me Moïse Nyarugabo, and Vice Governor Mukiza Gadi. He says the visit served as a powerful indication that the people of Minembwe have not been forgotten and that it renewed hope for the reconstruction and development of the region.
In concluding his message, Me Maniragaba Byashoni John called upon the people of the Minembwe highlands to remain hopeful and continue working together to build a better future. He emphasized that, in his view, Minembwe should become a region defined by peace, security, and development rather than by conflict and displacement.
He concluded by thanking God, describing Him as the refuge and source of strength for the people throughout the difficult years, while also expressing gratitude to everyone who continues to contribute to restoring hope and supporting the people of Minembwe.
