The Kenyan government led by President William Ruto has been accused of collaborating with armed groups, including the RSF from Sudan and M23, which opposes the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the eastern part of that country.
This was mentioned in an interview that former Deputy President of Kenya, Rigathi Gachagua, had with the media outlet KTN News on Monday night this week.
In the interview, Gachagua stated that President William Ruto’s administration is a business government, accusing it of diplomatic failures and profiting from regional conflicts, and that it collaborates with groups like M23, as well as interfering in Sudan’s issues.
He claimed that the leader of this country, Kenya, has caused turmoil in Sudan through activities allegedly linked to business dealings with Mohamed Hemedti, the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
He said, “Regarding the deaths occurring in Sudan, the main commander of the RSF is not Hemedti, it is William Ruto, because for a group to operate effectively, it needs money.”
He continued to emphasize that Ruto made gold agreements with Hemedti in 2023 and personally played a role in sending him for diplomatic purposes.
Gachagua also stated that Ruto has exploited Kenya’s foreign relations to facilitate gold smuggling.
He said: “He is using our country, through your friendship, to bring gold from Sudan, to refine it in Nairobi, to send it to the Middle East, and to use the proceeds to purchase weapons.”
Furthermore, he accused Ruto of interfering in the war in Eastern Congo, claiming that he collaborates with the M23 group, and that they are also engaged in gold trading in the region.
He also mentioned that Ruto has business agreements with the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani.
He continued to say that Ruto’s business interests are criminal and undermine Kenya’s foreign relations with countries like Serbia and Russia.
Gachagua called for the international community to monitor Ruto and question him about his ongoing activities, and to hold him accountable.
Last year, in 2024, President William Ruto’s government dismissed Gachagua from the position of vice president of the country, where he was accused of crimes including incitement while it was reported that he was encouraging the youth to oppose the government and disrespect the head of state, among others.
