Minembwe: Drones Reportedly Carry Out Attacks Today, Damaging Property and Injuring a Young Child
Security continues to deteriorate in the mountainous areas of Minembwe, particularly in villages inhabited by the Banyamulenge community, where information from local residents alleges that FARDC forces, in collaboration with the Burundian army, as well as the Wazalendo militias and the FDLR, continue to carry out attacks using unmanned aerial vehicles commonly known as drones.
Information received by Minembwe Capital News from residents of Lundu indicates that on Wednesday, 27/06/2026, in the morning hours, drones dropped explosives in the area, destroying significant civilian property and injuring a 6-year-old boy.
A message sent by one of the residents to Minembwe Capital News stated:
“Drones struck Lundu, destroyed property, and injured a 6-year-old child.”
According to further information received by Minembwe Capital News, the attacks caused widespread fear among residents of Lundu, with some reporting that they have begun fleeing their homes due to growing insecurity in the area.
Residents say that the explosives dropped by these drones destroyed various properties, including houses, household items, and other civilian belongings. There are also reports that many residents have been sleeping outside or fleeing into nearby bushes for safety, fearing continued attacks.
These incidents come at a time when drone strikes have reportedly been occurring for several days in different parts of Minembwe and surrounding areas, particularly in villages inhabited by the Banyamulenge community. Areas previously affected include Rudabagiza, Gakenge, Kalingi, Bidegu, and several others.
Residents further report that since last Friday to the present day, drone attacks have continued in these areas, leaving infrastructure damaged and many civilian homes destroyed.
Some residents also claim that the pattern of these attacks suggests a level of coordination, as the drones often strike either early in the morning when people begin their daily activities or at night, causing significant psychological distress, especially among children and women.
To date, no official statement has been issued by the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo or any military authorities regarding the reported attacks in Lundu. However, residents continue to call for urgent intervention and an end to the attacks, saying their lives are increasingly at risk.
Minembwe Capital News continues to monitor the situation in order to provide further updates on the impact of these attacks and the overall security situation in the Minembwe region.
