Serious Allegations Emerge Against FARDC and Burundian Forces in Mulenge
In the highlands of Mulenge, located in South Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), reports are emerging of deeply concerning incidents affecting civilian security, particularly among the Banyamulenge community.
According to information from local residents, a coalition of forces comprising the DRC national army (FARDC), Burundian troops, and armed groups including Wazalendo and FDLR, is being accused of involvement in acts of destruction and looting targeting civilian property.
These reports indicate that in areas such as Rubemba, Bidegu, and Kalongi, there have been incidents of houses being dismantled, with roofing materials removed and taken away, as well as livestock looted. Witnesses claim that many homes—especially those belonging to residents who fled due to prolonged insecurity—are being completely destroyed.
Some residents who spoke to Minembwe Capital News state that these acts have intensified in recent days and are often carried out अचानक, creating fear among those who remain in their homes.
On April 24, 2026, additional reports confirmed heavy gunfire in the areas of Bidegu and Rubemba, allegedly carried out by FARDC and its allies. Residents further claim that drones were used to carry out airstrikes on populated areas, resulting in damage to homes and civilian property.
These developments come at a time when eastern DRC continues to experience ongoing conflict between government forces and various armed groups, further endangering civilian lives. International organizations continue to call on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and to refrain from actions that violate human rights.
As of now, no detailed official statement has been issued by the DRC government or other relevant authorities regarding these allegations. Meanwhile, local residents are urgently appealing for protection and humanitarian assistance to safeguard their lives and property.
