Joseph Kabila has arrived in Goma after passing through Kigali in Rwanda, and he is expected to address all Congolese people.
Joseph Kabila became president of the DRC in 2001 and served until 2019.
The Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC), which includes the M23 and Twirwaneho groups, has confirmed that Kabila arrived in Goma on Friday, April 18, 2025, after previously passing through Kigali, Rwanda.
The spokesperson for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Patrick Muyaya, stated that Joseph Kabila’s reception in the eastern part of the country under the supervision of AFC/M23 reinforces that he is an enemy of the state.
One of Joseph Kabila’s close associates told the Associated Press that his visit to Goma is to contribute to a program aimed at restoring peace in eastern Congo.
Additionally, Joseph Kabila’s spokesperson, Barbara Nzimbi, announced that in the coming hours or days, he will address the Congolese people to speak about the issues surrounding him.
Kabila arrives in this part of the DRC at a time when, at the end of January 2025, M23 captured Goma in North Kivu, and in mid-February of this year, it also took the city of Bukavu in South Kivu.
Currently, this alliance controls many areas, including Minembwe, known as the capital of Mulenge in South Kivu.
