Minembwe: Reports Claim Belgian Soldiers Were Killed in the Fighting
As the security situation in Minembwe, South Kivu Province, continues to deteriorate due to ongoing clashes between rival armed groups, social media platforms have been flooded with claims alleging foreign involvement in the conflict.
One widely circulated message alleges that several Belgian soldiers were either wounded or killed during fighting near the Minembwe center. According to the claims, the wounded personnel and the bodies of those reportedly killed were transported to Baraka overnight before being airlifted to Bujumbura aboard Burundian military aircraft that allegedly departed from Sebele Airstrip in Fizi Territory.
However, as of now, no official authority from Belgium, Burundi, or the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has confirmed or denied these allegations.
The same reports further claim that Belgium is engaged in confidential efforts to secure the release of additional special forces (commandos) who are allegedly being held in Minembwe. These claims have also not been verified by the competent authorities and should therefore be treated as unconfirmed information pending official confirmation.
The message also states that the MRDP–Twirwaneho movement continues to confront what it describes as forces backed by powerful foreign countries. According to the authors of the statement, despite facing troops said to possess advanced military training and sophisticated equipment, the group remains determined to continue what it describes as a struggle to protect its members and the local civilian population.
These reports come at a time when the security situation in the Minembwe highlands remains deeply concerning, with continued reports of clashes and attacks between the opposing sides. Nevertheless, because much of the information circulating originates from social media platforms and individual sources, many of the claims remain independently unverified. They should therefore be approached with caution until they are officially confirmed or addressed by the relevant authorities.
Minembwe Capital News will continue to closely monitor developments and provide its readers with accurate, verified, and professionally sourced information as it becomes available.
